Check the appropriate box for the number of products you are registering, and click continue. If you have a previous Apple ID, the next screen will ask how many products you are registering. Click the iPod category, followed by the appropriate product line and "Continue."
Enter the serial number. The serial number can be found on the back on the iPod and also on the back of the iPod's original box. Click on the drop menu and select what the iPod will be primarily used for (Education, Work, Home) and your profession. Click "Continue." Review your serial number and the menu items you selected, and click "Finish." Your iPod is now registered.
Create a new Apple ID. If you do not have an Apple ID, click on the "create one" hyperlink. The next page will require you to enter in your personal information, including name, billing address, e-mail address, zip code, telephone number and date of birth. Additional requirements include creating an Apple ID name and password along with a security question that will be presented in case you forget your password and need to reset it. Complete the form, and select your preferred language in the Contact Preferences section and click "Continue."
When you first purchase your iPod, it is important to register the hardware via online in order to validate the warranty. Your registration information is sent to Apple and is used when you have hardware issues and in need of repair. From the day you register, you will receive complimentary 90-day telephone support for technical issues and a one-year repair warranty. Once you register, you will also gain access to software and hardware updates that Apple occasionally releases.
