Run Diagnostics on iPod

Run Diagnostics on iPod - Restart your iPod and make sure the "Hold" switch is off---switched away from the headphone jack (not showing orange).

Press and hold "Menu" and "Play/Pause" for 10 seconds if you have a iPod 1G to 3G. If you have a iPod 4G+, press and hold "Menu" and "Select Center Button."
Press and hold "REW", "FFW" and "Select" when you see the Apple logo and feel the device's hard drive spinning if you have a iPod 1G to 3G.

Navigate the list of tests using the "REW" and "FFW" buttons. Your scroll wheel will not work while in this mode.

Restart the iPod to exit from the "Diagnostic Mode."

Like other devices, the iPod has a troubleshooting program that can tell you what is wrong with the device if it's acting buggy or giving you an error. Running the iPod's diagnostic program will determine what is wrong with your music player and get you back listening to your favorite tunes.
