Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB cable that came with your portable media player. Launch iTunes. You should see your iPod under "Devices" in the left pane.
Click your iPod and click the "Summary" tab. Select the "Enable disk use" or "Manually manage music and videos" check-box and click "Apply" to save the changes.
Double-click "My Computer" or "Computer" on the desktop if you are using a Windows operating system. You should see your iPod listed as a portable hard drive. If you are using a Mac, you should see your iPod listed as a portable hard drive on the desktop. Double-click your iPod's portable hard drive to launch the hard drive window. Drag files to or from the iPod's window to copy them
An iPod is popular because it plays music and videos and also stores files much like a portable hard drive. Using iTunes--the default iPod management program--you can turn your iPod into a storage device to backup and transfer files from one computer to another.
