Turn Off Your iPod

Turn Off Your iPod - Turn off your iPod by holding down the "Play/Pause" button for two or three seconds. The screen goes blank, and your iPod remains off until you turn it back on again by holding down the "Play/Pause" button.

Let your iPod go to sleep. When an iPod isn't used for two or three minutes, it automatically goes into "sleep" mode to conserve battery life. The screen will go black until you touch any of the controls. Sleep mode uses considerably less battery power, but allows you to simply tap the screen to re-activate your iPod and choose your next tune.
Use the "Hold" switch to keep your iPod sleeping. The "Hold" switch is the sliding bar on the top of your iPod. When you put the iPod on hold, the screen locks, making it impossible for your iPod to accidentally turn on again. It's like locking your cell phone to avoid "pocket calls."

Reset an improperly disconnected iPod by simultaneously holding down the "Menu" and "Select" buttons. Hold for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears. The iPod will reset itself, running through a setup protocol until your regular screen appears.

Restart a frozen iPod by toggling the "Hold" switch. This typically works on older-generation iPods. When you move the "Hold" switch back and forth between the on and off positions, your iPod's click wheel should begin responding again.

It's frustrating to watch the battery of your iPod drain because you can't figure out how to turn the device off. In addition, you must be able to turn off the device on airplanes and under other circumstances. The process of turning off an iPod isn't as simple as flicking the On/Off switch in many models. Set your iPod into the right mode to ensure battery life and follow guidelines for the use of electronic devices when traveling.
