Double-click on the iPod icon. Locate "Tools" on the menu bar and go to "Folder Options" and select the "View" tab. In the Hidden Files and Folders section of the dialog box, select "Show Hidden Files and Folders," then select "OK." This enables you to access the iPod's music files.
Double-click on the new folder entitled, "iPod_Control" that is now located in the location of your iPod drive and appears to be faded. This is where all the music is located and organized into folders that have a letter followed by a series of numbers. This is Apple's way of organizing your music, but unfortunately you cannot see the titles of the songs until you open them in iTunes.
Right-click on the "Music" folder and and select "Properties." Locate the "attributes" tab and uncheck the box labeled "Hidden" and press "Apply" on the bottom of the dialog box. You will be asked next if you "want to apply these changes to selected subfolders and files," select "OK." This will make all the music files visible and ready to be copied into iTunes.
The Apple iPod has been designed to try to prevent file sharing among its users, mainly in an effort to combat music piracy. However, there could be a time when you need to get the music from your iPod back onto your computer. Maybe you bought a new computer, your hard drive crashed or you mistakenly deleted the music. There are several programs, both paid and for free, that can perform this task -- or you could do it yourself.
