Hold down the center button in the click wheel, and at the same time hold down "Menu" on the click wheel. Continue to hold the iPod's buttons until the device's screen shuts off, turns back on and shows the Apple logo.
Plug the iPod's connector cable into the dock connector on the bottom of the iPod. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB or FireWire port to charge the iPod.
Wait at least two hours for the iPod to charge. Launch iTunes on the computer, and click "Controls" of the iTunes menu.
The iPod A1136 is the fifth generation iPod from Apple that uses a click wheel to scroll through your device's media library, and may occasionally lock up when you attempt to play a song or display a photo. This error error occurs when the hard disk is unable to access the information and stalls while opening a file. A reset of the device usually corrects the problem, as it clears the device's memory and any errors. Check your iPod's buttons to determine if the cause is due to a hardware error before resetting the device, as the problem may be due to the iPod's hold switch.
