Reset an iPod Touch

Reset an iPod Touch - Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button. This is the main power button on the top left-hand corner of the device.

Press and hold the "Home" button while still holding "Sleep/Wake." The home button is the main button on the front of your iPod touch, indicated by a white square inside of a circular black button.
Hold both buttons until the Apple logo appears on your screen. Resetting can take upwards of 10 seconds. Once the logo appears, your iPod touch reboots by itself.

If your iPod touch won't respond to a typical shutdown, you might need to reset the device. According to Apple's website, a "reset" is different than just turning on and off the iPod. When you turn off the device using the red power "slider," the system closes all applications and shuts down. When you reset the system, the iPod touch forcibly shuts down, and actively running application data may be lost. You should only reset an iPod touch if it fails to respond to normal touchscreen commands.
