Connect your iPod to your computer using a USB cord.
Select your iPod from the device list in iTunes once it appears.
Click “Restore” on the “Summary” tab of the main screen. iTunes will prompt you to select from one or more restore options.
The fourth generation iPod is identified as the iPod with the click wheel and color display, and also known as the iPod Photo. All models of the iPod 4G include the click wheel and full color display, making it easy to view album artwork and photos. Subsequent versions of the iPod also have video capabilities. If you are having trouble with your iPod 4G, there is a series of steps you can follow to try to fix the problem. Start by resetting the iPod (see Resources). If this doesn't do the trick, you may need to restore the iPod, which replaces potentially corrupt software components. Doing so will erase all the iPod’s files, so you should make sure you have your files backed up in the iTunes Library.
