Click the iPod on the iTunes sidebar. The default page displayed should be the "Summary" tab.
Check the box beside "Enable Disk Use" below "Options." Now you will be able to open your iPod as if it were a removable disc from My Computer on Windows or the desktop on OS X.
Copy files to the hard drive in the same way you would copy them to a flash drive, by dragging and dropping from a folder to your iPod folder. Before removing your iPod from the computer, make sure to safely "eject" it by right-clicking and selecting "Eject."
Whether you've got more space than music on your current iPod, you're upgrading to a newer model or you simply find yourself with another iPod laying around, you may as well use the extra space to back up important documents and files. You can easily convert your iPod to a storage device, making it a handy replacement for a portable hard drive in a pinch. In order to use the iPod as a storage device, you will need to have iTunes installed on your computer to change settings.
