Spray a few shots of compressed air into the connection socket on the bottom of the iPod. This tends to collect dust and lint, both of which prevent a secure connection in the dock. Spraying the debris out of the connection allows the iPod to properly connect to the computer.
Straighten the dock connector pins straight with a pair of needle nose pliers. If the pins are bent, the iPod is unable to connect to the dock. Once you straighten the pins with the pair of pliers, you can again sync the iPod up with your computer.
Replace the USB data cable running from the dock to the computer. If the cable pins are too damaged (or if the connector pins have broken off), you must replace the entire cable. Thankfully the cable disconnects form the dock so you are not forced into purchasing an entirely new dock.
Apple iPods must connect to a computer in order to re-sync and upload additional music, games and video files. However, if the dock being used to connect the two devices together is damaged or dirty, the computer may be unable to detect the mobile MP3 player, preventing any data from uploading directly to the iPod. Thankfully, there are a few methods of repairing this problem to ensure your iPod docks completely with the connected computer.
