Set the dock end of the charger cable on a flat surface and hold the iPod upside down above it. Position the hole over the metal portion of the dock and press down gently until it snaps into place.
Plug the other end of the cable into a computer's USB port or a wall charger adaptor. Leave it plugged in for an hour or two, or for up to six hours if the battery is completely dead.
Plug the larger end of the charger dock into the bottom of the iPod nano.
The iPod shuffle and iPod nano are both sometimes referred to as the iPod clip because of the clip on the back of the tiny devices. They're small and lightweight and attach to any flap on your clothes or on a bag or purse to make travel easy. The iPod shuffle is a little trickier to charge than the iPod nano because it has a different charger cable than any other iPod. When you travel with a shuffle, make sure you have the charger with you, because you can't borrow a charger from a friend with another type of iPod.
