Reset an iPod 40 Gb to Default

Reset an iPod 40 Gb to Default - Push the hold switch, found on the top of the iPod, toward "Hold." When in this position, the switch will display an orange color.

Move the switch back to its off position, sliding it away from "Hold."
Press and don't release the iPod's menu button, found on the top of the device's click wheel.

Push the center button on the click wheel so that you're holding both the center button and the menu button simultaneously.

Wait for approximately 10 seconds or until the iPod's screen shows the Apple logo. Release the menu and center buttons and wait for the iPod to finish turning on. The reset process is now complete.

The 40 GB iPod is a color-display iPod released in 2003. Some individuals still use the 40 GB model, even though the device has since been replaced by newer iPods with larger capacities; the iPod Classic holds 160 GB, as of April 2010. Software-related problems may occasionally cause the iPod to freeze and become unresponsive. Reset the iPod to its factory defaults to clear its internal memory and restore the music player's functionality.
