Restart & Erase Everything Off Your iPod - Turn on the computer and go to the Apple website. If you do not have the most recent version of iTunes, select iTunes from the drop down menu and select "Download now" for the latest version of iTunes. If you are unsure, select "Download now" anyway and it will let you know if you already have the version installed.

Connect your iPod to the computer with the iPod Dock Connector to USB 2.0 cable. When this is connected and your computer recognizes your iPod, iTunes will automatically open.
Select "iPod" in the device list on your iTunes screen. It will say "iPod nano," "iPod classic" or another iPod version, depending upon the model you have.

Click on the "Summary" tab, which will tell you if you need to update the iPod's software version. It will give you the option to update the software version, or to restore the iPod to its original settings.

Follow the instructions carefully and you will successfully erase everything from your iPod.
