Remove any protective coatings or cases from the device. The plastic film used to protect iPhones and iPods during shipping can garble speaker sounds, and third- party protective cases may obstruct the speaker if they are not designed to fit well enough.
Clean the speaker with a small, soft-bristled brush to remove any obstructions. The speaker on an iPhone and iPod touch is located on the bottom of the device. Depending on the model you are using, the speaker is to the immediate left or right of the dock connector.

Restart the device. A software glitch could be to blame, and rebooting the system could remedy the issue. If your screen is unresponsive and you can’t restart using the normal touchscreen controls, press and hold the “Sleep/Wake” and “Home” buttons simultaneously to force a reboot.
